Mammoplasty is the clinical term for boob jobs. It has three types: breast augmentation, breast reduction, and breast lift. Of all three, the most popular is breast augmentation, boob job or breast enlargement.  This can include silicone gel prosthetics or fat grafting. On the other hand, breast reduction is the removal of the tissue and skin around the chest area. This is commonly done to lessen or remove back and shoulder pains in women. The other type, breast lift or clinically known as mastopexy, is the removal of skin near the breasts intended to reshape or lift the breasts to boost its height make it appear less saggy.

Of all three, let us focus breast augmentation, boob job or breast implants. As we all know, this is done to make a woman’s breast bigger. In terms of the number of procedures done, breast implants are getting more popular than ever. In fact, based on a report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons says that in the United States, breast augmentation is the most commonly performed procedure in cosmetic surgery. Back in 2006, 329,000 breast implant procedures were done in the US.

There are two basic types of breast implants: silicone-gel-filled implants and saline-filled implants. Saline-filled implants have been used in the procedure of breast augmentation for a long time, unlike silicone-gel implants which has been before due to health risks.
