It has been known that cosmetic surgery is only for the very rich, vain, and famous.  Nowadays, cosmetic surgery has become affordable.  Safety procedures and techniques are now practiced to ensure positive results.  Modern machines and equipments even add to the success of most cosmetic procedures.  Medicines, ointments, and laboratory researches will add to the total success rates of cosmetic surgeries.

Though cosmetic surgery has risks and associated minor problems, it has benefits that sometimes can outweigh these known complications.  Patients with excess skin after a weight reduction therapy still will benefit from cosmetic surgeries to improve their appearance.  Significant reduction in body size sometimes is not enough.  Skin folds can lower self-esteem and will make someone feel bad seeing his or her own self privately in front of a mirror.  This will in turn give a feeling of insecurity and will result in lack of social interactions that can affect career and profession.

One of the most common cosmetic procedures is breast augmentation.  It has increased considerably since 2000.  There have been controversies about implants.  Based on some studies, both the silicone and saline implants are safe.  Even though most people consider breast augmentation as something negative that symbolizes emphasis on superficial beauty, doctors and patients view cosmetic surgery as a source of renewed confidence.  It has helped them reach their full potential in their social, athletic, and career life.

It is not, however, a guarantee that breast augmentation can increase your self-esteem.  If breast resizing is the only factor being considered to have more self-esteem on the part of a patient, professional counseling is very much needed.  This does not mean you cannot have your breast implants.  This is only a clear reminder that you must undergo surgery only for the right reasons.  Having a larger breast will eventually let you have a wider mental outlook is not always the case.

A boost in self-image has always been attributed to a better feeling about yourself than before the surgery.  The truth is it does not matter how other people view your breasts.  What matters most is on how you view them and how you feel about them.  This will simply mean that the goal after the surgery is for you to feel better about yourself.  If you feel well about your body, then your self-image is expected to improve. Women have different views about their breasts.  So no matter how small or how big a woman’s breast is, there is no definite indicator about a woman’s self-image.

According to studies, majority of women who had breast augmentation say they feel much confident.  They feel and think more positively after the recovery period.  For majority of women, having a small breast after does not make them feel proud.  Having implants with a reshaped and resized breasts make women feel and look well.  Women are becoming more outgoing.

Like all surgeries, cosmetic surgery also has its specific risks.  Contraindications to cosmetic surgery include:  a recovery from heart attack, severe infection, a serious illness, hepatitis, HIV infection with systemic manifestation, cancer, blood disorders, severe overweight problems, diabetes, and skin disorders.  Your health is better than what you feel about yourself. Try to consider these risks.
