Skin Grafting

Skin grafting also known as transferring of skin tissue is usually done in plastic surgery.  There are however different grafts.  An autograft is taken from the recipient.  An allograft is taken from a donor of the same specie, and a xenograft is taken from a donor of a different species.  Good results are often associated with skin grafting if the procedure was done with careful planning, appropriate choice of wound suturing and closure.  A branch of plastic surgery is reconstructive plastic surgery.  It is performed to correct functional limitations due to burns, facial bone fractures, birth defects, developmental abnormalities, infections, and removal of tumors.
